37th and 8th, nyc - violation in 2001

    Saw these two signs. Looks like there are some permits for them, but they clearly are vinyl and cover windows. There are also violations. This definitely needs to be investigated further.

    Work Permits from 2001:

    It's been in existence 7 YEARS with no action beyond issuing violations.

    I am tagging this one "city hall" so next time we go down there to investigate, we can look it up.

    This might be a good one for the blog unless I am missing something?

    the building is 301 west 37th street. here is another photo of it. looking into DOB site now

    this seems to be a permit at least. though there might be some other reason it illegal dunno.

    Yeah I saw that. Kinda threw me at first, but then I noticed it's a work permit not a sign permit, which is sneaky. So my impression right now is they got the permission to do the construction, but not for the sign itself. Which is confirmed because of the violation issued after that work is complete.

    Right?

    Good luck with this or any other Van Wagner sign.

    They are the ones that have all the special permits granted by the City Planning Comission on 8th Avenue near Penn Station.

    They have more connections with the City than you can imagine.

    I know, they piss you off and the signs might be illegal and etc etc, but you are dreaming.

    Steve- Wrong by the way. The zone this property is in is M1, which allows for advertising.

    Got you on the Van Wagner connections. Makes sense. But that's what we're here to fight. We are dreaming. Dreaming of fewer billboards. It takes dreams to inspire action.

    About the M1 permit, you gotta explain more. What makes you think it's legal when the DoB itself issued 2 violations?
